REVIEW: Amityville Vibrator (2020)

Synopsis: Cathy (Corella Waring) moves into a new home and soon comes into contact with a vibrator with ancient evil powers. Two researchers must locate this possessed item before Cathy and anyone else she encounters becomes a sex slave for Satan.

There's something about writer/director Nathan Rumler's movies that are just an absolute delight. It's probably because his obviously warped sense of humor translates extremely well to the bizarre, graphic, oddball horror films he makes. It's also possible that I'm just as warped as he is, because so far every film that he's ever been involved in, I've loved whole-heartedly. Amityville Vibrator is certainly no exception.

A few years back, I was introduced to Rock Bottom Video and Nathan Rumler when they were in the process of putting out what I consider the best indie horror comedy of all time, Fangboner. I knew when I was given the opportunity to watch Amityville that it was going to be hard for it to live up to that film, but dear God does this film deliver.

Cathy (Corella Waring) moves into a new home, and not long after is given an old, used vibrator while at a yard sale. Slowly but surely, her use of the vibrator leads to some dark, violent, and overly sexual events in the house. Is "overly sexual" even a possibility when you're making what amounts to a horror-comedy-porno-parody of the Amityville films? That's not for me to judge, but this movie doesn't just skirt through the sexuality, it's as XXX-rated as that unmarked VHS tape you swiped from your old man's secret cabinet when you were 10. Or for you younger readers, it's as XXX-rated as all that HD porn you grew up with on your high speed internet connections, you bastards.

That's not to say the movie is only sexy. It's also bloody and violent! Just how you like it. With special effects by underground maestros James & Mae Bell, Amityville hits all the marks with the gore and the girls. A feature is early in the film, where we see a head get shotgun blasted to bits, with brilliant red delight.

Rumler and team know a thing or two about indie and underground films. They've had deals with Troma and now Wild Eye Releasing, and the Rock Bottom movies have a strong following with fans. Story and acting come secondary to jokes, boobs, bush, and blood, but that's what you're looking for anyway when you are watching a movie called Amityville Vibrator. You're expecting sexy ladies and you get it. You're expecting blood, and you get it. You're probably not expecting marionettes with giant dildos, masturbating nuns, or a close-up shot of Rumler's dick while he's taking a piss, but hey, you get those things, too.

Overall, I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Everyone involved seems like they had a blast making it, the dialog is hilarious, the story's parody is perfectly on-point.  In the end, if you're looking for a gory comedy to masturbate to on a Friday night, you could sure as hell do a lot worse.
